Great post, Sandra. I giggled at ‘hiatusi’ 🤭. More importantly, I was just speaking with my therapist about taking a writing break on Substack and your post convinced me to do it. I’ll finish my narrative post for this weekend and only post roundups (easy to do) through the new year. December is a nutcracker (as in, busts our balls) of a month, so I really need this. Thank you for the inspo 🧡

I think we should make hiatusi a thing, Amy. It's too good not to be real. And I'm so glad you're going to give yourself that time! The holidays are, indeed, a ballbuster, and we need to pace ourselves so we can actually enjoy them, and the quiet time that December, deep down, is. xo

Rest rest rest. 🙌 preach it sassy sister!

I’m in for December rest. Space and time to just be, but also to allow myself to have the space to allow the creative juice to flow. Happy resting.

Thanks, Kim. And that's the best part. Resting doesn't necessarily mean stopping, but it does mean slowing down, relaxing, taking off the pressure...which usually sparks an unwarranted amount of creativity. LOL. Enjoy your December. Can't believe it's day after tomorrow! xo

Your posts are always so timely. I need to pump the breaks. Sometimes I confuse excitement with stress until I can’t sleep. Then I know it’s stress.

((Dont feel pressure to go somewhere so as to not “waste” your time off.)) paraphrasing. Love this. Respect the Staycation!

Looking forward to the 9th. 🙏❤️

Thanks so much, Carissa. I love "wasting" my time at home, living my sort-of-dreamlife not having to work! (Even if my mansion is teeny tiny.) I'm looking forward to the 9th, too! We'll have fun! xo

This read like a permission slip. Thank you for writing it, Sandra, and for modeling such healthy, happy-making habits!

I'm coming up on 33 straight weeks of publishing, which in some ways doesn't sound like a lot...but then again, wow, that's 8 months without a break! Recently, I've noticed that it's getting harder and harder to start writing each week's newsletter—a sure sign that time off is required. Planning a break for December, and regular ones after that. 🤗

Thank you, Maddie! And I'm so glad you're taking that break. You've been running a marathon. You need a massage and some carbs. xo

I am all for hiati.

Wait is that true that only paid subcribers can comment if something is paywalled? That just upended my whole plan with my audio recording. Blarg

I don't know if it's still true, Chris, but it was true back in March/April. I put in a couple of requests during "Office Hours", so maybe it's changed? The way you'll know is if Everyone is greyed out in the comments section of the settings before you go to post something with paywalled content. I think it's silly they set it up that way. But, maybe I'm wrong and they fixed it. xo

I actually like the idea of paywalling old posts after 4 weeks. Stealing that. Also, looking forward to this month's theme. I kinda stole your last theme and ran with it. You'll see what I mean next week. Hope your month-long break is fabbity-fab.

I am soo far behind on everyone's posts but as always, love this one. When I got sick after taking a few days off, I think that was my body going "ok, you need more of this rest thing". And yes, please plan with planners people...keep me employed :)

Thank you, Jackie. And, as one of the busiest people I know, YES! Please give yourself more good rest. It's not lazy, it's nurturing. And you're the person I'm coming to when I finally plan my perfect planner! 😘 xo
