It’s easy to want things. It’s harder to get things. Why? I mean, some people seem to get whatever they want, whenever they want…and some of those people aren’t even good people. So WTF is that about?
We can have a nasty habit of keeping ourselves small. It’s okay to want it, but we know we will never get it. So we don’t really go after it. And WTF is that about?!!?

It’s good to want more, to want change, to want better. Think about it. We need to give thanks to whichever ancestor it was who was sick and tired of walking on their knuckles, and decided to walk upright, right? Or Margaret Knight, who gave us the flat-bottomed shopping bag (or at least the machine that manufactured it). And Mary Anderson, who saw a problem a New York City trolley driver had whilst driving in the sleet, went home to Alabama and gave us the windshield wiper.
Invention is change; it’s expansion. It’s looking beyond what’s accepted to what could be better, simpler, safer and bigger.
And, yet, we choose to stay small. To go along with the status quo. To believe this is all we get. It’s nice to dream and all, but we aren’t going to really achieve much more than what we have right now.
WTF?
If we don’t try, we can’t fail. It’s so much easier to be small and safe. But I can’t imagine that feels good. It’s uncomfortable. Which is why we don’t feel happy staying small. Because we are meant to grow and be more. We are meant to evolve and expand. We are meant to unstuck ourselves, follow our passions and be inspired.
So, how do we do that?
Be brave enough to believe in yourself. Be kind enough to love yourself. Be bold enough to try. Trying is the first step toward success. Failure is another step on success’ path. The trick is to keep trying. Not with Malignant Optimism, but with wisdom and tenacity. Be confident enough to take up space. Stop being small and let yourself expand. A caterpillar knows staying small isn’t possible; expansion is her destiny. After a bit of an uncomfortable transformation, she is ready to fly. She is meant to spread her wings. And so are you. xo
