Hello!
I’m Sandra, writer of wrongs, seeker of happy and periodical podcaster. I’m also a certified Happiness Coach Happyist. Go figure, because — by nature — I’m sassy, sarcastic, snarky and swear-y. I am also proof that you don’t have to change who you are (and give up parts of you that you like) to be a happy person. (It’s really less complicated than we make it to be.)
On Substack, each Wednesday, I write about ways to find our happy — right now, as is (with ZERO toxic positivity), share lessons learned (mistakes make great teachers), and what it’s like to attempt a big life in a small space (toes will be stubbed).
Each month, I host Last Saturday Seminars (held, of course, on the last Saturday of the month at 11 AM PT), which is free to all subscribers. We talk about how to cultivate your own personal brand of happiness (it’s not one-size-fits-all), and getting over things, like heartbreak and disappointment (it’s more fun than it sounds). I’m also certified as a Relationship Coach…which also works as a breakup-getting-over coach. (See my first book.) I also do Workshops, six-week online courses that help you understand and grow your personal brand of happiness (it’s not one-size-fits-all).
Have a look around and, if you like what you see…or feel a little curious about it, please hit that button below. It would be great to connect with you!
What’s in it for you?
I want to give my subscribers as much as possible. I hope, at a minimum, there will be some laughs, possibly a shift in our perspectives on how we navigate this thing called life (we should be enjoying it, dammit!), and creating connections. Substack is a great community for that. (Really, the readers and writers in this sassy little circle are lovely.) And, most of all, expanding and embracing our happiness!
Free subscribers get all main posts (for the first 4 weeks, then they are paywalled) and access to the Last Saturday Seminars.
Paid subscribers ($5/mo or $40/yr) get all of the free perks, plus access to the archive, bonus posts (like podlets), full podcast episodes (starting in June!), discounts on workshops or private sessions, and super good karma for supporting this work. Your financial contributions let me know you find value in this ‘stack. Cheers!
Founding members ($120) get all of that, plus deeper discounts for workshops and one free private session per year. Groovy, right?
To learn more about the seminars and workshops, please visit my Events page (link below).
I deeply appreciate all readers who spend time here (thank you!), and know that not everyone has extra dough to spare on something like this (been there). With that in mind:
In addition to the subscribers’ Last Saturday Seminars, there’s a 7-day free trial, so you can dip your toes and dive into the archive and see what this is all about. (Just be sure to cancel BEFORE the 7th day so you aren’t charged.) I encourage you to take advantage of that. And if you need access to the archive beyond the trial and can’t do a paid subscription, let me know. Email address is below in the Community section (you’ll have to email me from the account you subscribed with, otherwise I won’t receive it…Substack’s little spam blocker). The last thing I want is for money to keep someone from getting happy. [Fun fact: You can save 10% on subscriptions when you sign up with a friend or two with a Group Subscription. (I love a deal!)]
If you like what you read and want to support the work, but don’t want to commit to a paid subscription (totally understand), you can…
…or visit the Tip Jar on my home page (you’ll reach the same destination). BMAC is a product of Stripe, the vendor who takes payments for subscriptions here. The monetary contributions help keep this ‘stack going, and mean the world. You can also gift a sub to a friend or donate one!
Another super cool and totally appreciated way to support this ‘stack is to like and comment on the posts, and share this sassy ‘stack with friends. All of that helps little things like this grow. (There’s also a Reader Referral Program where you can earn free subs…see below!)
A little bit more about me…
I’ve come to find that I never take a direct path anywhere in life.
I went to film school as an experimental narrative director and ended up a traditional narrative screenwriter (paper’s cheaper than celluloid; hi, GenX here). Then, I accidentally became an author when a friend suffered a sneak-attack breakup, and I watched her do all the things that I did and other friends did, none of which helped, and ended up writing A Sassy Little Guide to Getting Over Him — 10 Steps to Heal Your Heart After an Unhappy Ending (2006, SAME ink). When I understood how slowly the publishing industry moved, I started my own imprint. (I’m sort of impatient.) I wrote the Young Adult edition of Sassy in 2017, and a couple of novels, too. Now? Now I’m all about helping others find their happy as The Happyist. In early 2023, I became certified in Happiness, Law of Attraction, Life Purpose, Relationship, and Health, Nutrition and Wellness coaching. (If you’re interested in coaching, you can visit my website or email me at the address below.)
Just so you know, each April, August and December, I take a little break and veer from my normal posts to share a themed month, which is happy-inducing. It’s important to take pauses in life to give ourselves time to renew, relax and reflect. (Hint, hint: You should do the same!) But this ‘stack never “goes dark” when I’m on hiatus. There’s always something going on.
If you still can’t get enough of me after all this, you can find me here on Notes (Substack’s version of TAKFAT), or on Threads at SassyLittlePod. (Same handle for Instagram.) You’ll get a little more of my snark and sarcasm there (and F1 rants if we are in season). If nothing else, each day, I post an earworm — songs I love and can’t get out of my head (not a complaint). Because the whole point of this is to have a good time. Right?
Community
Substack has created a fabulous community of people with shared interests (aside from its Nazi problem…we’re working on it). Join in! Comment on posts, comment on comments, and send me your thoughts (as well as your inquiries) at asassylittle@substack.com. Emails to that address can only be received if sent by a current subscriber (free or paid) from the email address linked to the subscription. (Substack is doing its part to protect us from spam. Don’t worry, I do my part, too!) I really appreciate how interactive and collaborative readers of this ‘stack are. Please don’t hesitate to be part of it! Let me know if there’s a topic you’d like covered or a question you’d like answered and we’ll dive in.
Sharing this ‘stack with friends helps the community flourish with even more wonderful folks like you! There’s also a nifty app so you can get your ‘stacks on the go. You can choose to receive posts in the app inbox to keep your email inbox more tidy. (That’s how I roll. Go to Settings to make your choice.)
To find out more about the company that provides the tech for this newsletter, visit Substack.com. And if you feel the urge to start your own ‘stack, DO IT! Really. It’s fab.
How to Unsubscribe
For some reason, Substack doesn’t always make that easy. One way I found is to go to the main page of the newsletter, then to your profile image in the top right and click that for the dropdown menu. There, below the divider line (at least on my profile) is Manage Subscription. Click on that and then, mid-page, you should see a red Unsubscribe button. When you successfully unsubscribe, you should receive an email. If you don’t get that confirmation, please email me and I will remove you. Of course, it pains me to see you go, but I get it if this is not for you and/or one more ping, email or thing to read is too much. (I feel you.) No hard feelings for sure.
Reader Referral Program
As you may know, Substack has a new program. As a way to thank you for being a loyal reader of A Sassy Little Substack (your support, of which, allows me to keep doing this work, and that means a great deal), they’ve created a structure where writers can reward readers for their referrals.
